The 170 years old Semmeringbahn

This year marks the 170th anniversary of the opening of the world’s first mountain railway in 1854, the Semmeringbahn between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag in Austria. The Südbahnmuseum in Mürzzusclag, which is 20 years old this year, is preparing a celebration on the occasion of the anniversary of the railway line, which has since been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. We organize a one-day trip from Budapest to the event with the Continental Pullman Express special train. The train offers only first-class seats and a bistro car.

You can board our train at Budapest-Keleti and Budapest-Kelenföld railway stations. After taking the seats, we will present the day’s program. On the train, we share interesting stories about the Semmering Pass and the Semmering Railway, which runs through it and is now a World Heritage Site. The buffet car on the train is in operation for the entire journey. You can also join the journey at Győr and Hegyeshalom stations. You can get off our train at Semmering and Mürzzusclag stations, where our guests can spend their free time individually until the return trip. The Südbahn Museum is preparing a birthday program in Mürzzuschlag. The museum is located right next to the train station and can be reached by walking a few minutes after getting off the train. The Continental Pullman Express will be hauled between Budapest and Hegyeshalom by the CRS 240-129 "Laminátka" locomotive, and from the border by the ÖBB 1010 nostalgia electric locomotive. From Hegyeshalom, locomotive 240-129 will be transferred at the end of the train to Mürzzsuschlag, where it will take part in the birthday event. In addition, special trains will also arrive from Slovenia and Austria for the event. The museum is preparing a vintage car parade, children’s programs and music programs. Pullman: HUF 24.990 /pax
The journey in the 42-seat first-class Pullman carriages, equipped with two- and four-seater reclining armchairs, becomes a real experience. Each box has a window and a table, so guests can pass the time of the trip with a card or board game party. The interior of the Pullman carriages is being renovated, the upholstery and carpeting of the carriages may differ from each other and from the photos.
The prices are the same regardless of age and the place of getting on and off and are valid for a round trip. It is the passenger’s responsibility to have the necessary documents for the trip (e.g. passport).

Pullman Lounge & Bar
The Pullman Lounge & Bar, located in the middle of the train, functions as the train’s gastronomic and social hub. Its offer includes coffees, teas, soft drinks and spirits as well as sandwiches and bistro food.
