Pentecost in Mokra Gora


17-20 May, 2024 (4 days, 3 nights)

iscover the wonderful sights of Mokra Gora and its surroundings with the Continental Classic Express.

Until the 1970s, hundreds of kilometers of narrow-gauge railway lines operated in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. An important element of this extensive system was the Kraljevo-Užice-Mokra Gora-Višegrad-Sarajevo line. One of the most impressive parts of the railway line crossing the mountains is the section crossing the Šargan pass above Mokra Gora, which overcomes the difference in level between Mokra Gora and Sargan Vitasi in a figure eight. This is where the current name of the light railway comes from: Šarganska osmica, i.e. the Šargan Eight.

The program is organized together with our program in Sarajevo. Guests of both tour travel on the same train between Budapest-Sarajevo-Budapest.

Day 1. (17th May, 2024 - Friday)
Meeting and champagne reception in the Lotz room of Budapest-Keleti railway station. Travel through Transdanubia and Croatia to Bosnia. Additional boarding options in Dombóvár and Pécs. Through interactive on-board programs, we can learn about the history and interesting facts of the affected railway lines, settlements, landscapes and our destination. The train has a dining car and a bar car. Arrival in Sarajevo in the early evening, from where we continue our journey by bus (~2 hours) to Mokra Gora. Accommodation in a cozy accommodation converted from the former railway station. Dinner together.
2. nap (18th May, 2024 - Saturday)
After breakfast, let’s travel from Mokra Gora to Sargan Vitasi on a nostalgia train pulled by a steam locomotive. During the trip, we make several photo stops, so it is possible to take really rare shots. The duration of the program is approx. 3 hours.

Free program in the afternoon and an optional walk to the museum railway with a gauge of 600 mm. Dinner individually.
3. nap (19th May, 2024 - Sunday)
After breakfast, we will travel by diesel train from Mokra Gora to Visegrád in Bosnia, where we will see the bridge over the Drina, built in 1571 by Buda Pasha Megmed Szokoli, which has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2007. This bridge was the subject of Ivo Andric’s work, "Bridge on the Drina", for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
We will have lunch in Andricgrad. The idea of ​​building the district can be linked to film director Emir Kusturica, who initiated its construction of memory of Ivo Andris. The district was built on the basis of what was described in the novel Bridge on the Drina and contains all the architectural styles of the former Yugoslavia.
Return trip to Mokra Gora, free program, then dinner together in the hotel’s private room.
4. nap (20th May, 2024 - Monday)
After breakfast, we travel by bus to Sarajevo, then return home with the Continental Classic Express. Community programs, a dining car and a bar car are available on the train. Arrival in Budapest in the evening.

Travel: The air-conditioned Pullman Tourist coaches provide comfortable travel for 62 people. The carriages have 3 six-passenger cabs, 1 four-passenger cab, and a 40-seat room section, so everyone can find the type of seat that suits them best. Each seat has a small table that can be opened either from the armrest or from the backrest of the previous seat. Two lodges have full tables. The backrests of the seats can be tilted in all cases. The washrooms open from the vestibule of the cars.
Pullman Tourist class tickets include free seat selection and a welcome and farewell gift.

 Travel: Traveling in the 42-seat first-class Pullman carriages, equipped with two- and four-person boxes with reclining armchairs, becomes a real experience. Each box has a window and a full table, so guests can pass the time of the trip with a card or board game party.
Pullman class tickets include free seat selection, a mineral water and a welcome and farewell gift.

Accommodation: Konačište Osmica		 Travel: In addition to the services included in the price of Pullman tickets, Pullman First tickets include:
  • champagne greetings,
  • a breakfast served on the way there,
  • a four-course lunch served on the way there,

It was originally a Trans Europe Express (TEE) dining car, equipped with all the luxuries of the 1960s then available. The TEE trains were the forerunners of today’s EuroCity trains, connecting the major cities of Western Europe by providing special services. The dining car is open for guests during the entire trip with an a la carte menu suitable for the time of day, which includes both meat and vegetarian dishes. The meals served in the dining car are always prepared by our chef on the train from the freshest ingredients.
 The Continental Salonz bar car, as the train’s social point, is an excellent place to get to know our fellow passengers and make new friends. We await our guests with a wide selection of drinks and snacks in the bar during the entire trip.    



Our accommodation is located in the village of Mokra Gora, in the building of the railway station. The Railway Museum, a conference hall and a restaurant serving local specialties are waiting for you in Šarganska Osmica. Satellite TV, Wi-Fi and rooms are available in the rooms. All rooms have a TV, a wardrobe, a hairdryer and a bathroom with a shower equipped with free toiletries. The accommodation provides towels and bed linen. The rooms in the side wing are located 30 meters from the main building, where the reception is located.
