Join an exceptional 9 day journey with a private Pullman car that reminds you of the golden age of rail travel in the 60s. You will cross Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Croatia, pass two of the most beautiful rail tracks of the Alps and visit 5 UNESCO World Heritage sites. You travel during the day and overnight in hotels.

The programme day by day

Day 1. – Welcome to Vienna

Arrival in Vienna and free time to explore the city.

Overnight: Hotel Hilton Vienna (or similar)

Day 2. – Over the Semmering to Ljubljana

Your train Continental Classic Express departs in the morning from the main station of Vienna. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the cosy restaurant car. An extraordinary railway adventure awaits you today: the Semmering Railway – the first mountain railyway in Europe with standard gauge. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage since 1998. Once arrived in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana a guided city tour will show you the historical centre where you find a mix of baroque and Art Nouveau architecture. You will also visit the railway museum. A bus transfer will bring you to Bled where you will spend the night in a hotel perfectly located at the shores of Lake Bled.

Day 3. – Bled and the national park of Triglav

The day starts with a city tour in Bled, which is said to be one of the most romantic places in the Alps. A « pletna », a typical boat, will bring you to the small island of Bled where you will visit the Assumption of Mary Pilgrimage church. In the close by city of Radovljica you will find lovely Renaissance houses and a beekeeping museum. Finally, you will discover the national park of Triglav and Lake Bohinj in the Julian Alps before returning to Bled.

Day 4. – Bohinj Railway and Triest

Your train takes you souhtbound, passing the Julian Alps and following the riveres Save and Radovna. On the so called Bohinj Railway you will cross the Solkan bridge – the longest stone bridge among train bridges in the world made of stone blocks. After lunch on board you will arrive in Sezana. A short bus ride will bring you to Triest. A guided city tour will show you the main sights of the city.

Day 5. – Postojna Cave

After a one hour bus ride you will arrive in Postojna where you will visit the famous cave. By foot and with a small train you will get about 2 km inside the cave where you will find a huge concert hall that used to host more than 10,000 people. Back at the station of Postojna you will embark you private train for the last part of the tour. Enjoy lunch onboard while travelling in the direction of Croatia. The train stops at Ogulin. A short bus ride brings to you Plitvice Lake National Park.

Day 6. – Plitvice Lake National Park and Zadar

Today you will discover the Plitvice Lake National Park which is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Depending on your preferences you can explore the lakes by boat or promenade along the wooden paths. In the afternoon a bus transfer brings you to Zadar. Discover the old town during a guided city tour.

Day 7. – Kornati Islands

An excursion by boat will lead you through this beautiful archipelago with its 150 small and large islands. It is the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea and famous for its species-rich faune and flore.

Day 8. - Sibenik, Trogir and Split – treasures of the Middle Ages

Along the Dalmatian coast you will drive by bus in the direction of Split. You will stop at two lovely cities with a well preserved medieval old town - Šibenik and Trogir.

Day 9. – Split

During a city tour you will visit Diocletian’s Palace, a wonderful example of Roman architecture. In the afternoon transfert to the airport. Breakfast
